Pickling is a great way to preserve a season’s harvest. It can be a quick and simple afternoon project that will provide great sides or condiments for the months to come. Join us as we partner with the Nantucket Preservation Trust to help bring awareness to Preservation Month and support their Preserve the Jar Campaign during the month of June.
Come spend the morning with Carole Murko as she teaches us how to do a quick refrigerator pickling method as well as one hot water bath method. We will be working with some of summer’s freshest bounty of beets, cucumbers, and red onions. While you learn about the pickling process, sample a variety of pickled goods that capture the fresh flavors of the season and imagine the joy each jar can bring during the gray days of winter.
What to Expect: In our “In a Pickle” canning demonstration, you will get to meet Carole Murko of Heirloom Meals. A renaissance woman in her trade, she hosts a radio show called Heirloom Meals, appears monthly as a food expert and demo chef on News Channel 13, Albany, NY’s NBC affiliate, and writes for The Huffington Post, Zester Daily, Edible Berkshires and Berkshire Magazine. After all of that hard work she still manages to find time to work on her personal blog: Heirloom Meals.
- The workshop is 2 hours and includes snacks and sips.
- Class is limited to 14 people.
- Sample a variety of Carole’s pickled goods during the demonstration.
- Take away a special treat to share with loved ones back home.
